Window Furnishings Australia, September 2014

The Folding Arm Awnings range previously known as the FA40 Series is now known as Sirocco and was featured in the September edition of Window Furnishings Magazine.

Jennifer Elmer, marketing manager for Turnils, confirms last year’s Super Expo saw the company launch a new range of folding arm awnings, initially branded the FA40 Series and now known by the name Sirocco.

“The Sirocco range features a number of different models, based on a clever modular design from Sweden.”

With hardware available in three standard colours - black, silver and white - models offered in the Sirocco series include:
• FA42 – a classic folding arm awning
• FA44 – European style and sleek designer finish
• FA45 – with crossover arms, for a larger projection on a narrow width
• FA46 – with fabric beam, for angled projection and clearance over doors that open outwards
• FA48 – compact semi-cassette design, for superior fabric protection and a streamlined finish

The range offers projections up to four metres, and widths from as narrow as 1.332 metres, up to linked awnings covering a width of 11 metres, or a single awning up to seven metres wide. Tested to European wind classification standard EN 1356, the awnings are wind-rated up to Class 3 – for wind speeds up to 49km/h – which is equivalent to 6 on the Beaufort scale. The range of models looks set to be a bonus for retailers, says Elmer. “Sirocco gives the retailer greater flexibility in being able to tailor solutions to the customer’s needs, by providing a variety of folding arm awnings to suit a comprehensive range of shading requirements and environments.”

“Promoting additional features is another way of adding value, by creating customised solutions to suit the individual. The inclusion of features such as pitch control and roller valance can add value and flexibility to the awnings.

Plus there is a vast array of motorisation options available to make it even easier for customers to operate their awnings. For example, setting the awnings to open/close on a timer or addingsun and wind sensors can also be included to automate operation of the awnings.”

“Sirocco folding arm awnings also offer flexibility in terms of installation, because they can easily be installed directly on to the wall or under the eaves, plus flexible roof brackets are also available.”

“For the 2014/15 summer season, Turnils has also introduced a number of accessory upgrades for the Sirocco series, including black colour-matched crank handles and a stylish new hood design,” she adds. “Additional features such as an optional roller valance and pitch control continue to be popular and are a great way to add even more value and additional functionality to these stylish folding arm awnings.”

Turnils has also released several product feature upgrades to its high end Cabrera range of fullcassette folding arm awnings, in response to demand for larger projections and updated
colour palettes. Elmer says the introduction of upgrades such as four metre arms and the addition of black as a standard hardware colour are among the new product features, reflecting the emerging global trends in this category.

“The use of Dyneema Tape over the elbow joints in both Sirocco and Cabrera awning arms is another likely reason behind the growth in popularity of Turnils’ folding arm awnings. With a much lighter weight and double the strength of a stainless steel chain, Dyneema tape is chemical, UV and moisture resistant plus it has a much flatter profile, delivering superior performance and durability with a sleek, more streamlined design.”
