KOOLBLACK™ - Mermet’s new dark fabrics know how to resist heat

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

Mermet, a world leader in solar protection fabrics carries on its tradition of producing innovative, quality window covering fabrics with the unveiling of KOOLBLACK Technology and the new E-Screen with KOOLBLACK Technology fabric collection.

This patented science changes the long-standing void in energy savings performance of dark colour screen fabrics by adding heat reflection properties to the fabric.

While conventional dark screen fabric provides superior view through and exceptional glare control, it also absorbs the heat. Until now, when heat reflection properties were specified for a building envelope, architects and designers were left to choose light colour or metalised fabrics while giving up glare control, clear outer view, exterior building aesthetics, and other options when selecting a window covering fabric. Now, for the first time ever, Mermet brings these features together with KOOLBLACK Technology™.

KOOLBLACK Technology™ enhances dark coloured yarn’s energy reflectivity by reflecting Near Infrared (NIR) solar radiation (also known as heat radiation), reducing interior fabric and room temperatures and improving the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) up to 23% versus common dark coloured screen fabrics. A dark screen fabric with KOOLBLACK Technology™ enables the fabric to reflect more solar heat, therefore, absorb less energy. As a result, KOOLBLACK Technology™ increases the energy efficiency of dark screen fabrics to levels comparable with light colours! This means improved heat control and increased energy savings.

E-Screen with KOOLBLACK Technology™ is constructed in a 2 x 2 basket weave pattern for clear, crisp outer view and contributes to a building’s energy-saving abilities due to its unique heat reflection properties and energy efficiency. Only dark solar shade fabrics with KOOLBLACK Technology™ provide exceptional glare control, comfortable view-through and elegant streetside aesthetics, while also reducing heat.
